Food & Beverage Training Manager /Seasonal (Yellowstone National Park Winter 2023)

This position is a seasonal opportunity that starts in December 2022 through Mid October 2023. This is a salaried position that is typically 40+ hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays), more intense schedules will be required during certain times of the season.   • As a Food and Beverage Training Manager you would be responsible for the development and implementation of Food and Beverage training programs. This position also works closely with the Yellowstone Training Office to ensure training materials and leadership classes occur in a timely manner

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all duties with the goal of providing excellent guest service in an efficient manner.
  • Design and prepare materials for new training programs; review, evaluate and modify existing and proposed programs and recommend appropriate changes.
  • Develop and implement a two-week management-training program each spring in conjunction with the Assistant Director, Executive Chef and Director.
  • Conduct company/department required training classes for all major arrivals during openings including but not limited to: safety training, Food & Beverage orientation, TIPS training, ServSafe, FOH Policies and Procedures. Also assist Support Staff trainers with specific position training sessions during openings as needed.
  • Conduct Weekly TIPs Training on location.
  • Work in conjunction with the Yellowstone Training Office and support staff trainers to ensure consistency of training materials and maximize effectiveness of delivery.
  • Work in conjunction with the Yellowstone Training Office and Food and Beverage Managers to ensure Leadership classes are taken in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the design, preparation and distribution of training aids such as instructional materials, handouts, visual aids, audio and visual equipment, job aids, operational standards, trainer binders, reference manuals and training evaluation forms.
  • Act as Department Safety Lead. Produces departmental SDS Binders, Safety Lead Manuals and Safety Tailgates. Performs training, safety and EMS audits on location to ensure compliance and readiness for secondary and certification audits.
  • Assist with the administrative and clerical duties of the Food and Beverage training staff as needed.
  • Provide input for identifying and defining present and future-training needs by assisting with needs analysis.
  • Assist with designing and administering training and development surveys to determine the effectiveness of the F&B training programs.
  • Work with the Reservations department to reserve Trainer Housing in the spring and fall for support staff trainers on location.
  • Schedule classes, track and follow-up with the Winter Management Program participants as needed.

  • Keep abreast of new techniques and developments in training by maintaining contact with others in the training field.

  • Follow Company and departmental environmental practices to minimize wasted energy and resources.

  • Follow Company and departmental safety practices to minimize risk to self and others.

  • Follow Company and departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Certification as a Trainer in the TIPS alcohol awareness program is required. Workshops will be provided if not currently certified. If candidate fails to pass this course and exam, a second opportunity will be provided; if still not successful, candidate will be placed in a position that does not require TIPS Trainer certification.
  • Certification in the ServSafe food-handling program is required. Workshops will be provided if not currently certified. If candidate fails to pass this course and exam, a second opportunity will be provided; if still not successful, candidate will be placed in a non-management position.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products is required.
  • Knowledge and practical application of training methods required. Experience with Audio Visual equipment required.
  • Strong presentation skills, including the ability to think clearly under pressure and appropriately respond to the dynamics of the class and the needs of the class members.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, i.e. plan a project and follow through with all phases of design and implementation.
  • Ability to communicate positively, verbally and in writing.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to accept and give direction.
  • The ability to teach, motivate and develop staff members.
  • The ability to problem solve, select a course of action and follow-up.
  • Knowledge of location food and beverage facilities helpful.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures used with the department and the company helpful.
  • Knowledge of and insight into training issues and situations faced by managers and supervisors in our operations helpful.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and comply with Xanterra’s motor vehicle policy.
  • In-park and overnight travel require

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, approximately 8 hours.
  • Must be able to walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time, approximately 8 hours.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
