Front of the House Restaurant (Yellowstone National Park Winter 2023)

Experience the magic and wonder of Yellowstone's 'secret season'!

Yellowstone National Park Lodges hires 300 people to operate 2 lodges and 3 restaurants within the park during the winter. The season runs from December 2022 to March 2023. Your work schedule is typically 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays). Time and a half is paid above 40 hours. Learn more about the Food & Beverage department.

  • As a Server ($7.25/hr + tips), you would be responsible for serving and providing meals and beverages to park visitors. Collect and accurately process forms of payment, ensuring guest satisfaction. You will also be communicating with guests, answering questions and conveying general park information.
  • As a Server Assistant ($8.00/hr + tips), you would be responsible for assisting servers, refilling water, running food, clear and setting tables in accordance with all sanitation and service standards. You will also be communicating with guests, answering questions and conveying general park information.
  • As a Host ($13.75/hr), you would be responsible for greeting guests, accept reservations, organize wait-lists and seating charts to maintain smooth dining room flow.

If you apply for a Front of the House Restaurant position, your application will be considered for one of the positions below. Applicants are assigned jobs based on their level of experience. Please make sure you list all relevant experience on your application!

Dining Room Server

  • Work with our Hosts and Server Assistants to provide Park visitors with great dining experiences in our full service dining rooms. Prompt attention, a warm welcome, informative explanations of the menu options, and professional meal service are the basics of the position. Answering guest questions, directing guests to resources available to them, and sharing their own enthusiasm and knowledge of the Park take our service to the next level of excellence. Previous experience is required for this position.

Server Assistant

  • Help guests, Servers and Hosts in our dining rooms by clearing, cleaning and resetting tables and keeping beverage glasses filled. And, as with all of our front of the house staff, Server Assistants answer guests' questions, listen to stories of adventure and share their own enthusiasm for the Park.

Host

  • Greet and seat guests, accept reservations, organize wait-lists and seating charts to maintain smooth dining room flow. Develop and maintain positive communication with Servers, Server Assistants, and the Manager on duty in the dining room.
Qualifications:

Qualifications vary by position.

Qualifications include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to organize and prioritize under pressure while maintaining a calm and pleasant demeanor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly: Service procedures, beverage and food menus as appropriate, operation of point of sales system.
  • Knowledge of menu, specials and features.
  • Knowledge of basic sanitation.
  • Certification in the TIPS alcohol awareness program is required. Workshops will be provided if not currently certified.

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, approximately 8 hours.
  • Must be able to walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, and reach for extended periods of time.
