What you’ll do as a Splicer I Fiber
Splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables.
Climb utility poles or towers, utilizes truck mounted lift-bucket or descends into underground vaults.
Cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections.as well as cuts and peels sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors.
Test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system.
Read and interpret (i.e. mechanical, electrical, digital) drawings, maps, blueprints diagrams, etc.
Operate technical Equipment, including but not limited computer, OTDR and fusion slicing equipment, and functionality.
Complete daily production reports of work performed.
Respond to emergency call outs as needed, to include nights and weekends, but not limited holidays and extending day.
What you’ll need
Minimum of 2 years experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation
Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
Ability to work in emergencies at night and weekends if needed including but not limited holidays and extending days. Ability to work in all weather conditions
High school diploma or equivalent
Able to lift and pull up to 80 lbs
Ability to work in all weather conditions
Must be self-motivated and able to work within time constraints
Physical abilities & exposures
Routinely: Stand, crouch, climb sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping while on shift.
Occasionally: lift or move up to 10 up to 50 pounds.
Salary Range: $30.00 - $36.00 / hour
