Job Title: Quality Safety Environment (QSE) Technician

Classification: Hourly / Non-Exempt

Reports To: QSE Manager

Core Hours: Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm

Must be flexible to work overtime as needed.

Summary: The QSE Technician is responsible for supporting the promotion and enforcement of company safety program across the organization. Under the direction of the QSE Manager, the QSE Technician will assist in ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies and engaging staff organization wide to ensure environmental, health, and safety.

Essential Duties The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Program Support 40%

Develop, implement, and maintain site safety programs and policies in compliance with Cal OSHA and company standards.

Provide support preparing for and during regulatory inspections.

Follow regulatory schedule, including permits, reporting requirements, and inspections.

Conduct regular facility inspections and risk assessments to identify and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors.

Investigate workplace accidents, near misses, and incidents. Identify and implement corrective actions.

Lead Safety Team meetings and promote employee engagement.

Quality Assurance and Food Safety Program Support 20%

Perform tasks to support quality systems which may include chemical concentration verification, temperature verification, pest control monitoring, and quality checks.

Review production, sanitation, and supplier records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance in a timely manner.

Operation and calibration of equipment which includes scales, thermometers, moisture analyzer, incubators, antibiotic reader.

Collect retention samples and follow the schedule for testing and storage.

Creamery Support 20%

Cross train in essential production functions and provide support for creamery operations, as needed.

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Training Program Support 10%

Maintain document control and training document using software platform.

Create and revise detailed SOPs related to safety, equipment certification, and operational programs.

Develop and conduct in-house employee training programs, including new hire onboarding. Source or design curriculum and training materials as necessary. Maintain “real time” training database.

Interdepartmental Partnerships 10%

Assist employees to maintain compliance with company safety policies

Responsible for being “eyes and ears” on the production floor, reporting any maintenance, safety, quality, supply chain, or general production process issues to the QSE Manager, making recommendations for resolution or improvement.

Work Environment The Cypress Grove production environment will vary. The environment will be hotter or colder, wetter, and noisier than is typical in an average working environment. Grovers will regularly work near and with industrial strength cleaning chemicals and equipment. Proper protective gear is provided and must be worn at all times. SDS sheets are available.

Physical Demands The demands described here are representative of those typically encountered in this role.

Remain stationery for long periods of time and move about on wet concrete floors.

Remain stationery for long periods of time at a computer workstation desk.

Position self to properly complete the task at hand. This may involve turning all or parts of the body or bending downward in order to place or reach an object at a lower level.

Extend above the shoulder to place or retrieve objects.

Ability to grasp, raise, lower and/or move objects of various sizes and weights:

Individually manipulate objects weighing up to 20lbs on a regular basis.

With assistance regularly manipulate objects weighing from 21lbs to 30lbs.

Occasionally with assistance manipulate objects weighing from 31lbs to 50lbs.

Preferred Skills

Skills/Experience Bachelor’s degree preferred.

1-2 years’ experience in workplace safety and/or environmental compliance preferred.

Certifications preferred: OSHA 30-hour

Good communication, organizational, Microsoft Excel and Word skills.

Must be able to complete forklift operator certificate within 12 months of hire.
