We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Farm Hand with expertise in tree care and dog care to join our team at a private estate in Orange County, near the historic town of San Juan Capistrano. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in horticulture and canine care to ensure the health and well-being of our fruit trees and dogs. This role requires a hands-on approach, a keen attention to detail, and a genuine passion for maintaining a thriving and sustainable fruit orchard. Responsibilities:
1. Tree Care:
- Perform routine maintenance and care for all trees on the property, including pruning, fertilizing, and pest control.
- Monitor the health of trees and identify signs of disease or damage, implementing appropriate treatments.
- Assist in planting new trees and ensuring their proper establishment and growth.
- Operate and maintain tree care equipment, ensuring all tools are in good working condition.
2. Dog Care:
- Provide daily care for several dogs, including feeding, watering, exercise, and monitoring their health.
- Assist with veterinary care, administering medications and treatments as directed.
- Maintain clean and safe living conditions for all dogs, including kennels and exercise areas.
3. General Duties:
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facilities, fences, and equipment.
- Assist with irrigation systems for both trees and other vegetation.
- Participate in seasonal tasks such as harvesting, hay baling, and other crop-related activities.
- Collaborate with other estate staff to ensure the smooth operation of all estate operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in horticulture, agriculture, or related fields is a plus.
- Proven experience in tree care and dog care.
- Knowledge of tree species, common tree diseases, and appropriate care techniques.
- Familiarity with large dog breeds and their care requirements.
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
