Art From Scrap Creative Reuse Program Coordinator
The AFS Program Coordinator is the visionary for Explore Ecology’s Creative Reuse Program, managing all aspects of the store and staff. As the ambassador of Art From Scrap, Santa Barbara’s creative reuse hub, this role serves as the public face of the store, welcoming and educating customers about waste reduction, diversion, and upcycling, as well as Explore Ecology’s environmental education programs.

Role and Responsibilities
Supervise, schedule, and support 3 to 5 store associates
Train staff in customer service, donation intake, merchandising, and POS procedures
Foster a positive, inclusive, creative team culture
Provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service and ensure customer satisfaction
Provide customers with accurate, positive information about the Art From Scrap Creative Reuse Store and Explore Ecology programs
Coordinate and manage volunteers in partnership with the Public Relations Director and Volunteer Coordinator of Explore Ecology
Ensure pricing is correct and that retail operations run smoothly
Outreach to local businesses and individuals for donations of materials for the store
Oversee daily store operations, opening/closing procedures, and cash/credit transactions using Square cash register system
Customer Service & Community Engagement
Provide excellent customer service and cultivate a welcoming atmosphere
Engage with artists, educators, families, and reuse enthusiasts
Answer questions about materials, reuse ideas, programs, and events
Represent Art From Scrap at community events as needed
Preferred Skills and Experience
Personable and friendly
Knowledge of reuse, recycling, art/craft materials, and sustainability (or enthusiasm to learn!)
Organizing, display design, and merchandising
Creative, resourceful, and excited about reuse
Collaborative and community minded
Organized, detail oriented, and proactive
Positive attitude and problem solving skills
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Employee management experience
Experience in retail management, retail, or creative reuse
Additional Notes & Responsibilities
Act a back-up or substitute for other AFS Staff, as needed
Scheduling
Full Time position: 30 to 40 hours per week
Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as scheduled
Work Environment
Standing, bending, and stooping, for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours)
Extensive contact with the public
Walking and climbing as required
Unassisted heavy lifting (up to 30 lbs.)
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $22.00 to $26.00 per hour DOE
Full Time Employees: 30 hours +
Health benefits include: Medical, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance
2 weeks per year of paid vacation
9 days per year of sick time off
Up to 8 Paid Holidays per year
