Due to the level of access granted by this position, an emphasis on maintaining and ensuring IT security best practices and behavior is critical. The person assigned to this role will be responsible for provisioning, troubleshooting, and ensuring the availability, performance, and security of multiple of IT systems across all 23 OSPD offices statewide. These responsibilities include elements of storage administration, virtualization, network management, data security, backup, disaster recovery, VPN connectivity, etc. The individual will also collaborate closely with other IT professionals to enhance system functionality and user satisfaction. This position reports directly to the IT Manager in our centralized IT division in Denver and requires the ability to work independently with limited guidance to complete major tasks as well as lead projects with minimal supervision. This is a technical non-supervisory role with no direct reports, however, some mentorship and guidance for junior and mid-level technical personnel is required. Applicants must be Colorado state residents or willing to relocate to Colorado. The duty location for this role is in Denver, although occasional remote work is available assuming the Colorado residency requirement is met.Typical duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:(Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.)
Responsible for the ongoing maintenance, security, and availability of our comprehensive IT infrastructure; providing on-site hardware maintenance/installation not only for the server and storage environment but also other IT systems; monitoring and managing system alerts across platforms
Plans, implements, and maintains complex provisioning, advanced maintenance, virtualization, data replication, disaster recovery, data migration, and documentation for our IT systems encompassing production, storage, network, and backup environments
Administers Microsoft M365 suite, covering aspects of cloud/hybrid/on-prem Active Directory/Entra ID, GPOs, User Management, AD/NTFS Permissions, Intune, AutoPilot, and M365 Tenant Management
Managing cloud-based storage and computing solutions, including but not limited to Veeam, Azure, Wasabi, S3 Buckets, and other products with a focus on security and performance
Provisions, manages, deploys, and configures VMs, Datastores, ESXi, and vSphere or similar products
Performs change management processes such as managing ACL rules, provisioning new shares, and integrating system updates
Responds to and resolves incident tickets related to a broad range of IT systems issues.
Thoroughly understands and documents the application and server architecture, system configuration across platforms, and how various IT systems interface with each other; supplements policy quality and documentation
Uses extensive knowledge of IT systems to effectively and efficiently resolve issues that arise
Leads and participates in the planning and implementation of IT projects across the agency, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with organizational goals
Performs other related duties, as assigned, which may include strategic project management and advanced troubleshooting
Attends meetings and trainings as required to stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements and to support continuous personal and professional development
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsMinimal Educational / Professional Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and five years’ progressively responsible experience in systems administration, server operating systems and virtualization. Equivalent education, training, or experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to perform at this level may substitute for the stated minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven experience in the management of enterprise-level IT infrastructures, including data centers, servers, and network systems
Expertise with server architecture and comprehensive understanding of server management and deployment
Strong experience administering all aspects of the Microsoft M365 suite in a hybrid environment.
Experience with advanced networking technologies, including proficiency with installing, operating, and maintaining Cisco Meraki switches, access points, routers, or other high-performance networking products and protocols
Advanced knowledge of VMware and similar environments, including deployment, optimization, and best practices for maintaining virtualized systems
Experience with architecture and capacity planning for distributed multisite organizations
Knowledge of monitoring and management technologies such as Solarwinds
Experience with remote monitoring and management tools and techniques such as Bomgar or RDP
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must be able to work independently and prioritize issues accordingly, with strong analytical and practical problem-solving skills
Strong understanding of on-prem, cloud, and hybrid storage environments
Experience with VMware or other hypervisors and Windows server environments; storage configuration, DFS, NFS, SMB, and CIFS; deploying storage-related policies over GPOs or Intune; and installing, configuring, supporting, and maintaining enterprise backup solutions
Extensive knowledge and experience with both cloud and on-prem storage systems; cloud-based object storage like S3, GCP, or Azure Blobs; and supporting backup and DR systems and devices
