The Assistant Director, JD Academic Services coordinates a broad range of activities related to academic programs in the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA). The incumbent schedules approximately 500 JD non-experiential and experiential courses each academic year. This position requires an extraordinarily high attention to detail, strong technical skills, a team-oriented approach, and the ability to respond promptly, accurately, and courteously to students, faculty, and colleagues. Additional responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Serve as a point of contact for over 300 JD adjunct faculty who are teaching each year.
Manage information across multiple technology platforms, transitioning to new platforms as needed.
Represent OAA in Law Center meetings, administering some academic processes.
Assist with curriculum planning tasks for the JD adjunct faculty.
Provide in-person logistical support to adjunct faculty and OAA.
Evaluate academic technologies as an end user, serving as a liaison between software vendors and OAA leadership.
Act as a core member of the team designing and implementing new technological tools.
Work InteractionsThis Assistant Director reports to, and works closely with, the Executive Director for Adjunct Services, who is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our large adjunct program. The Assistant Director for JD Academic Services also carries out their responsibilities in close partnership with the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, the Assistant Director for LL.M. Academic Services, who manages course scheduling processes for approximately 300 LL.M. adjunct faculty who are teaching each year, and the Program Coordinators for Academic Affairs, who are responsible for onboarding and coordinating processes and support for adjunct faculty with other Law Center departments. The Assistant Director must coordinate with all Office of Academic Affairs staff; colleagues in the Experiential Education program; colleagues in other Law Center departments, including the Office of the Registrar, IST, the Bookstore, and Faculty Support; as well as adjunct faculty and law students. The Assistant Director communicates directly with JD faculty. At times, they must resolve time-sensitive issues. The actions of the Assistant Director may affect the accuracy of the Law Center Academic curricular schedule, compliance with internal and external deadlines for Law Center accreditation and students’ professional interests, the timely processing of adjunct appointments and payment, the quality of the adjunct faculty’s experience, and the quality of the law students’ experience.Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, faculty and students
A minimum of 3-5 years of work experience; At least 1 year of managing complex administrative tasks is strongly preferred
Strong time-management and project-management skills, including the ability to independently prioritize tasks, process a high volume of requests with accuracy, and complete projects on time
High proficiency in technology with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with databases, Banner, and course-management tools strongly preferred
Experience working full-time in an academic institution is a plus
