Description of WorkThis position with NCDOT offers fullState Benefits (https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits) , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. Individuals in this class perform regimented work to meet requirements of Homeland Security regulations in regard to access control to prevent injury and loss of life by reducing or eliminating introduction of harmful agents or devices on Ferry Division vessels and/or facilities. These positions monitor vehicular and pedestrian traffic, at facilities, to prevent unauthorized entry into restricted areas. Duties include working knowledge of standard safety, surveillance and security practices and equipment. Individual must have training in correct procedures to respond in emergency situations, deal with public tactfully and courteously, follow written and verbal instructions and monitor all activity operating within specified rules and regulations as it pertains to Homeland Security and Safety. Also responsible for logging in and out of vehicles as they enter and exit the premises, answering the telephones, patrolling the grounds to secure the premises, cleaning and all other duties as assigned.This position will work at the Ferry Shipyard.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesApplicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following:
Knowledge of standard methods of reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances, fires, medical and security threats.
Skill in the use of security equipment (e.g. radios, switchboards/phones, flashlights, fire extinguishers, surveillance cameras, alarm panels, card access, or other electronic security systems).
Demonstrated ability to patrol, monitor, and guard assigned area.
Demonstrated ability to interact with co-workers, supervisors, and general public to provide assistance and relay information.
Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
