If you have the required teaching experience as indicated below, and wish to explore a career that offers the opportunity to share your skills, we want to hear from you!DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs an Adult Basic Education Teacher for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for the education of adult offenders. You will prepare lesson plans by specifying content and activities to be covered, sequence of instruction, material needed, and standards for lesson accomplishment. You will also prepare assessment techniques and analyze the information gathered to determine adult inmate capabilities and readiness of learning. In addition, you will prepare and administer quizzes, tests, and exercises to direct students' study and measure individual achievement.Interested in learning more? Full-time employment (37.5-hour work week)
Work hours are 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in education which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum; or
Four years of paraprofessional experience assisting educational staff in a classroom setting that includes or is supplemented by one year of experience providing classroom instruction or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes or is supplemented by completion of an institution-approved teaching practicum, one year of experience providing classroom instruction, or possession of an active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.Special Requirements:This position is assigned to an institution that houses state mandated school-age students and requires a valid and active Instructional 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. When no candidates possess the named certifications, the selected candidate must be eligible for an Emergency Permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that is appropriate to the position.Employees assigned to an institution that houses state mandated school-age students, and who were hired based on eligibility for an Emergency Permit, must obtain a valid and active Instructional Level 1 or 2 certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.Other Requirements:
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
