UPMC invites you to apply for the position of part-time Phlebotomist! This role involves rotating shifts, including every other weekend and two holidays annually. Join a remarkable team of healthcare professionals!Responsibilities:
Provide courteous and professional interaction with all laboratory customers, ensuring timely response to telephone inquiries.
Adhere to proper patient identification protocols while performing venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick procedures to obtain appropriate blood specimens. Provide clear instructions to patients on specimen collection procedures.
Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgment to prioritize tasks and meet departmental needs, respecting authority.
Conduct specimen collection at off-site locations and safely transport specimens to the laboratory, following established safety protocols.
Adhere strictly to laboratory and hospital policies concerning procedures, quality control, safety practices, and compliance with hand hygiene and isolation precautions.
Perform clerical duties including accurate entry of demographic information, test orders, and ensuring patient and sample identity integrity.
Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned, contributing to their integration into the team.
Promptly notify technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists of any unusual or problematic incidents.
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Preferred:
Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program
Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy
Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
