Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Programmer to create, modify, and optimize cutting programs for our plasma and waterjet machines. The ideal candidate has strong computer skills, a solid understanding of basic geometry, and the ability to translate technical drawings into accurate machine-ready files. This role works closely with production, engineering, and fabrication teams to ensure precision, efficiency, and quality in the cutting process.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and edit 2D CAD drawings for parts to be cut on plasma and waterjet machines.
Convert drawings into toolpaths, generate nested layouts, and produce machine-ready G-code or CAM programs.
Import, clean up, and prepare customer-provided CAD files (e.g., DXF, DWG).
Apply basic geometric principles to ensure accurate dimensions, tolerances, and part fit.
Optimize cutting paths for material usage, speed, and machine capabilities.
Set cutting parameters such as feed rate, pierce points, kerf width, and cut sequencing based on material type and thickness.
Collaborate with machine operators to troubleshoot cut issues or adjust programs as needed.
Maintain organized libraries of CAD files, programs, and revision histories.
Ensure that all programmed parts comply with internal quality standards.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience with CAM or nesting software used for plasma/waterjet systems (e.g., SigmaNEST, ProNest, FlowMaster, etc.) is a plus.
Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new software tools quickly.
Understanding of basic geometry, dimensions, shapes, angles, and tolerances.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manufacturing blueprints.
Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills and ability to work with machine operators and production staff.
Preferred Experience (Not Required):
Previous programming experience with CNC plasma, waterjet, laser, or router machines.
Familiarity with material types (steel, aluminum, stainless, composites).
Knowledge of manufacturing processes or fabrication environments.
