As a Line Cook of The Great Northern (TGN), you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the excellence of our kitchen operations of our Zero Gravity Beer Hall menu, in Burlington, Vermont. The Line Cook is responsible for the preparation of high-quality food in a timely, efficient, sanitary and consistent manner. The Line Cook must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment, while maintaining the organizational ability to identify and act on job duties quickly and effectively. Line Cook must be prepared to work as a team member in a dynamic workplace, follow all safety procedures, and have a high threshold for heat in a kitchen environment.
Responsibilities:
Presents him/her/themselves professionally, e.g. clean apron and attire, well groomed.
Maintains up to date knowledge of recipes, procedures and plating for all menu, special and promo items for which he/she/they are responsible for.
Gain product knowledge and to educate staff or guests about our products.
Prepares hot/flattop/salad/sandwich items to recipe or special order.
Meets timing standards.
Coordinates orders with others, assists coworkers as needed.
Works cooperatively with front of house staff to respond to guest needs.
Ensures his/her/their areas of responsibility are well stocked and guest ready.
Maintains high standards of cleanliness, safety and food safety throughout the shift
As required: stocking, cleaning, opening and closing tasks; and any other duties designated by the management team.
Requirements:
Knowledge and comfort with the food menu, with a deep understanding of high volume kitchen functions and offerings.
Must be able to stand for long periods and exert well-paced mobility, throughout the shift.
Ability to lift and carry 0-50 lbs on a regular basis.
Must be able to push and pull equipment of various sizes and weights (e.g. 25 lbs pot of water), throughout the shift.
Must be able to kneel, bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks.
Requires grasping, standing, walking, repetitive motions, hearing ability and visual acuity.
Ability to handle difficult interpersonal situations professionally, whether with team members, vendors and guests.
Skills and Qualifications:
Previous experience in griddle, grill, salad, saute and deep frying preparations.
Able to accurately read and communicate orders.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Works well under pressure, and shows a sense of urgency.
Understanding of food safe practices.
Team player, works productively with others.
Good communication skills.
Flexibility to work in a busy and fast-paced work environment.
Commitment to providing a consistent, high-quality, and welcoming customer experience.
