Sous Chef -Slate Bistro & Bar

Position Summary

The Sous Chef plays a key leadership role in the daily operations of Slate Bistro & Bar’s kitchen. This position supports theThompson Golf Group CorporateChef in executing high-quality, consistent food whilemaintainingkitchen standards for safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. The Sous Chef leads by example, helps develop the culinary team, and ensures a positive, professional kitchen culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Operations

Assist the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations, prep, and service execution

Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, andportioncontrol

Oversee line execution during service and step in as needed tomaintainflow

Assistwith menu execution, specials, and seasonal offerings

Team Leadership & Training

Supervise and support kitchen staff, fostering teamwork and accountability

Train new hires and coach staff on recipes, techniques, and kitchen standards

Lead shifts in the Executive Chef’s absence

Promote a respectful, professional, and efficient work environment

Food Safety & Sanitation

Enforce all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards

Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and temperature controls

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchenat all times

Inventory & Cost Control

Assistwith inventory management, ordering, and receiving

Help control food costs, waste, and portioning

Monitor product quality and vendor deliveries

Standards & Compliance

Follow all Slate Bistro & Bar and Thompson Golf Group policies and procedures

Ensure compliance with labor, safety, and company standards

Qualifications

2–4 years of kitchen leadership experience preferred

Strong culinary skills with experience in high-volume or upscale casual dining

Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen best practices

Ability to lead, train, and motivate a diverse team

Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills

Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods

Lift up to 50lbs

Work in a fast-paced, hot kitchen environment
