Facilities Management, Central Plant, seeks a Water Treatment Maintenance Specialist to operate and repair water treatment equipment and/or systems for the Tempe campus.

$23.00 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Essential Duties

Test and analyze water samples to maintain proper chemical levels in boilers, cooling towers and chilled and heating water systems.

Replace defective parts or install new control devices to maintain quality of water treatment.

Inspect, disassemble and repair damaged or malfunctioning control devices for water distribution systems.

Repair and maintain pumps, meters, hoses, filters, plumbing parts, chemical distribution systems and related equipment.

Maintains records and databases utilizing the work order system, MS Word and Excel for all water tests.

Operate and maintain reverse osmosis units to purify and treat water used in research laboratories.

Inventory and store chemical products.

Use ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of general maintenance experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee may be required to possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Desired Qualifications

Two years’ experience in conducting analysis and testing of water samples (i.e. pH, alkalinity, chlorine residual, turbidity, bacteria, dissolved oxygen, hardness, and color).

Experience in:

Making appropriate changes to chemical feed rates from results of tests to maintain high quality water for boilers, towers and chilled and heating water systems

Operation of reverse osmosis unit

Maintaining records/databases

Operation of forklift

Customer service

Demonstrated knowledge of:

Lab safety procedures

MS Word and Excel

Work order systems (Web TMA)

Evidence of effective communication skills

Working Environment

Utilize hand and/or power tools.

Climb stairs and ladders.

Activities performed in a variety of interior and exterior settings involving restricted movement, low lighting, dirty environmental conditions, air contamination, extreme temperatures, intense noise and exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials.

Required to walk and stand for varying lengths of time and travel moderate distances to perform work.

Ability to push and/or pull approximately 100 pounds of weight loaded on wheeled dolly or maintenance carts to transport tools and equipment throughout campus to job site.

Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 75 pounds.

Drive University vehicles and/or carts.

May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and includes the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection).

This position is located at the Central Plant on the Tempe campus.

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.

Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment to include audiogram, asbestos worker clearance, respiratory clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test.

This position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule and may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays.
