We are seeking a highly skilled VFX/Animation Software Engineer with a strong background in 2D compositing tools and pipelines to take on an exciting technology project. The ideal candidate will have experience working with legacy systems, as well as, understanding the capabilities and strengths of modern tools and technologies in the Compositing space.This role will be fully dedicated to the transition of 2D assets, metadata, and compositing processes from a legacy system to a yet to be determined modern platform. This role would be expected to learn about how our legacy system works from veteran engineers and artists with the goal of developing a proposal on how relevant assets and workflows can be moved to new solutions built primarily on industry standard 3rd party/open-source tools. Once a plan has been selected, this role will be the primary engineer behind its technical execution and will be expected to work with internal and external partners to complete the transition. This role might also involve mentoring/delegating some tasks to eager, junior developers.Key Responsibilities:
Interface with veteran software engineers and artists with experience of legacy system to understand it’s innerworkings
Architect and develop a solution to extract assets, metadata, and processes from a legacy, internally developed system and migrate them into a modern platform
Hands on development of automation processes/workflows that will handle majority of migration and validation tasks
Possible mentorship/training of junior developers to assist with implementation of various tasks in overall solution
Develop a roadmap of the project and present regular status updates to Stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications:
7+ years of experience in VFX/Animation pipeline development, with at least 2+ years of focus on compositing
Proficiency in Nuke, After Effects, or other relevant compositing software
Strong understanding of key image concepts like color and coordinate spaces
Experience with Python scripting and process automation
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Organized and self-motivated
Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership experience in a VFX/Animation pipeline or compositing role
Interest/familiarity with new and emerging technologies/workflows in image processing, computer vision and compositing
Experience working with artistic teams and managing technology projects
Keen interest in finding efficiencies and reducing friction for artists performing their craft
The hiring range for this position in California is $136,100 – $182,400 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
