Under the supervision of the Production and/or Inventory Lead, the technician will perform a wide variety of duties in both the painting and production areas. The technician will read work orders to perform a series of operations to paint and to correctly assemble fire and rescue helmets. While performing these duties, the technician is expected to keep the area clean, and free of clutter, and to look for opportunities to improve the process and eliminate waste.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare leather and composite helmets for painting by cleaning, sanding, masking, and ensuring proper surface preparation.

Operate spray guns to apply primer, paint, and protective coatings with correct pattern coverage and finish quality.

Mix paints to the specified color, viscosity, and thickness according to technical requirements.

Perform quality checks on painted helmets for defects, consistency, and adherence to standards.

Maintain knowledge of appropriate cleaners and materials for paint application and surface prep.

Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Complete required production and quality control documentation accurately.

Assist with minor assembly of helmet components as needed, following detailed instructions and specifications.

Support organizational goals by performing tasks that align core values and growth plans.

Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and guidelines and maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Accurately complete all necessary production and quality control documentation.

Follow detailed assembly instructions, processes, and procedures.

Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organization’s core values and help execute growth plans.

Prepare work to be accomplished by reading procedures, parts lists, work orders, gathering parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, or equivalent work experience, or equivalent work training.

Minimum 2 years’ experience in painting.

Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

Attention to detail and an understanding of what makes a good, quality product.

Have the ability to use fine motor skills to piece unique materials together.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Willing to follow the Lean concepts of manufacturing.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

Produce products to meet customers’ specifications by performing repetitive and non-repetitive production assembly operations on safety helmet assemblies.

Ability to read drawings and process instructions.

Detail-oriented.

Have a strong knowledge of lean manufacturing concepts.

Experience in manufacturing.

Working knowledge of using hand-held power tools.

Working knowledge of a computer and word processing at the basic level.
