Job DescriptionThe Rogers Lab at the Cedars-Sinai Smidt Heart Institute is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join our team. A significant area of research in the Rogers Lab focuses on:a) the development of next-generation biological therapeutics,b) the molecular and cellular basis of disease and tissue regeneration,c) and translational studies using preclinical models of human disease.The overarching goal of the lab is to discover and develop clinically-realistic therapeutic solutions for diseases refractory to conventional approaches. The Postdoctoral Scientist will create and lead impactful research to achieve the research objectives of the lab.Summary: Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with Dr. Rogers, the Postdoctoral Researcher will develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols in Dr. Rogers's Research Lab, and analyze and interpret data. Participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author. Develop grant proposals either independently or by working collaboratively with department directors or other faculties. Design and perform experiments and develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques. Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures. Other duties include participation in research/academic meetings, performing calculations, tabulating data, summarizing methods and results of related experiments, etc. Expected to function efficiently and cooperatively with a team of faculty, research associates, technicians and students. Responsibilities include surgical research laboratory; IACUC documentation for experimental projects, editing scientific papers, ordering supplies and animals, procedure scheduling, pre-surgical preparation (including pre-anesthetic induction, intubation, sterile preparation of animal and instruments), surgical assistance (anesthesia, circulation and scrub nursing), post-operative recovery of animals, daily drug administration and census maintenance. Some minor surgical procedures in rodents. Other responsibilities include training new research fellows and maintaining and servicing laboratory equipment.QualificationsDoctorate Degree (PhD) in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or Systems BiologyWorks independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization. Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment. Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
