Job Summary:Under the general supervision of Chief of Service and the Department Administrator, plans, develops, implements, evaluates and the supervises the Speech Pathology service delivery and quality assurance program. Develops and implements programs of peer review and inservice education. Participates in short and long range planning for improving delivery accessibility of service in the Speech Pathology department. Provides comprehensive speech pathology case management which includes administering diagnostic tests to members having communicative disorders and swallowing impairments.Essential Responsibilities:

Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.

Coordinates central planning, development, implementation and evaluation of speech pathology programs with appropriate input from the Chief of Service and Department Administrator. These include staff and departmental goal setting, department projects, literature, supplies and continuing education, peer review and productivity, quality of care and service.

Responsible for the coordination of the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of Speech Pathology and departmental policies, clinical practice agreements and quality assurance programs.

Ensures Speech Pathologists compliance with all licensure requirements.

Oversees orientation and training of staff.

Ensures competency level of staff.

Provides training by assisting in the diagnosis and development of treatment programs for complex cases.

Plans, coordinates and schedules the office hours and leaves for Speech Pathologists.

Participates in the interviewing and selection process for all Speech Pathologist candidates, as well as completion of performance assessments of current staff.

Collaborates with the Department Administrator and the Chief of Service in resolving service and patient care issues.

Performs other administrative responsibilities such as collection and compilation of Speech Pathology statistics, budget development and monitoring.

A Speech Pathology Coordinator also provides direct case management care to members by performing the ff.

Evaluates and administers diagnostic tests and provides individualized treatment to adults and children for a variety of communication disorders, voice and swallowing impairment and neurological defects.

Advises physicians of test results.

Recommends and implements appropriate treatments.

Monitors status of results and collaborates with physicians when altering treatment program.

Serves as a consultant on interdisciplinary teams.

Serves a a clinical expert in specialized areas such as pediatric speech, traumatic brain injury, etc.

Trains CFY candidates.

Ensures compliance with TJC, federal, state and local requirements.

Participates in the development of department policies and procedures.

Develops protocols and treatment programs within specialized areas.

Develops and presents in service programs in area of specialty.

Develops, implements and evaluates/improves clinical services and therapeutic programs for Outpatient and Inpatient (where applicable) SLP services.

Maintains liaison and collaborates with other departments for purposes of patient care/program planning.

Conducts performance evaluations.

Works with Director/Department Administrator to ensure optimal patient access to care.

Performs site visit evaluations of potential contracted SLP providers.

Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

Minimum two (2) years experience within last three (3) years as a Speech Pathologist required.

Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience in dysphagia management.

Education

Completion of an accredited speech pathologist training program.

Completion of a Speech Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) internship required.

Masters degree in speech language pathology.

License, Certification, Registration

Speech-Language Pathologist License (California) required at hire

Clinical Competence Certificate - Audiology from American Speech/Language and Hearing Association

National Provider Identifier

Basic Life Support from American Heart Association

Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of federal, state and local requirements.

Knowledge of federal, state and local regulatory requirements.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and to utilize theories, principles, practices, techniques and methods of Speech Therapy including program evaluation.

Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Leadership and supervisory experience preferred.

Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Notes:

Typical Mon - Fri, 8:30am - 5:00pm.

Will need to oversee therapists at other Medical office building as Riverside expand.

Will process tort, timecards, make schedule.
