We are working on smarter grids, cleaner energy, and tools to help people manage energy more efficiently.Organization Overview:Strategic Planning & Power Supply is responsible for the core strategic planning for the company. We develop long-term resource plans to ensure California meets its clean energy future in a reliable and affordable way. We also manage SCE’s energy resources through procurement of clean energy to satisfy SCE’s customer demand. Energy Procurement and Management (EPM) is a department within Strategic Planning & Power Supply and ensures that customers have enough electricity to meet its needs through the output of SCE-owned generation plants and purchase of electricity from independent generators or wholesale markets.The jobAs a Senior Advisor, you will report to the Senior Manager of Forecasting in the EPM and will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and high-level oversight to multiple Distributed Energy Resource (DER) related projects and work efforts within EPM and across the company. You will engage in advocacy efforts with the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to address barriers related to DER integration in the CAISO wholesale markets. You will also participate in project teams involved in the acquisition of cost-effective DERs. In your role, you will also support the analytical and strategic capabilities of the Forecasting team in the functions of After-the-Fact Analysis and short-term load and price forecasting.Day to day

Plans, develops, and implement strategies in support of DER integration into the CAISO wholesale markets;

Actively participates in CAISO stakeholder processes to reduce barriers to DER integration into the wholesale markets;

Actively participates in CPUC working groups and workshops to help shape DER policy;

Coordinates with other IOUs on DER integration policy and future California market design objectives;

Partners and collaborates with Customer Services and Transmission and Distribution Organizations to develop company policy in response to proposed CPUC mandates and rulings pertaining to the design, operationalization, and procurement of DERs;

Partners with Customer Service to identify opportunities and develop new retail DER programs that meet the needs of customers, DER providers, and wholesale markets;

Supports company DER activities and initiatives and provides other organizations (e.g. Transmission and Distribution and Customer Services) with regular updates of ongoing DER related work within EPM;

Develops regulatory testimony, develops position papers, and completes data requests for various regulatory bodies;

Participate and drive analyses of SCE’s load and price forecasts and generation, trading/hedging, and resource adequacy strategies to ensure low costs to customers;

Manages, directs, and performs supervisory tasks to cross-functional division teams to address strategic challenges and solve problems to achieve portfolio optimization;

Perform other duties as necessary.

QualificationsQualifications you need

10 years of electric utility experience in power procurement, power systems operations, energy markets, strategic planning, corporate strategy, and/or customer programs and services

7 years of project direction and/or project management experience

4 years of experience working with DERs (e.g. Demand Response, Energy Storage, PV, Electric Vehicles, etc.).

Other details that will set you up for success

Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and negotiating skills to build consensus with stakeholders to develop and maintain partnerships with support organizations and senior management;

MBA/MA/MS graduate degree or multiple degrees in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field;

PMP or equivalent project/program management credentials;

Strong background in wholesale power market operations, particularly in California;

Strong background in SCE’s preferred resource contracts and/or resources;

5 years in quantitative analytics related to energy markets;

Demonstrated experience developing financial models for valuing assets in competitive power, capacity, and natural gas markets;

Demonstrated knowledge of financial and statistical theory and applications.
