Job Type: 30-40 hours per week.

Salary: $20-$25 per hour, depending on experience and skills

About Us: We are a family who seeks a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced individual to provide personalized support and care for our 20 year old family member who lives with autism. Our goal is to enhance their quality of life, enhance community engagement, create independence, and ensure their safety and well-being.

Job Description: The Personal Aid/Executive Function Coach will work closely with an individual with autism, providing assistance with daily living activities, job coaching, promoting social and communication skills, supportive living skills, support behavioral and emotional needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with autism and possess strong interpersonal skills, patience, and empathy. This is a parallel scaffolding job, a ‘do-with’ job. The Coach will participate in all aspects of the client’s day. For example, if the client is on the treadmill, so is the Coach. If the client is cooking dinner, the Coach is cooking, too.

Responsibilities:

Assist with daily routines, including personal hygiene reminders, house cleaning (in parallel), cooking (in parallel), laundry (in parallel).

Transport client to activities such as gym and work.

Provide job coaching at the client’s volunteer job.

Implement and follow individualized support plans and behavioral strategies.

Meet with Behaviorist for staff training and coaching two times monthly.

Encourage and facilitate social interactions and community involvement.

Support the individual in educational, recreational, and vocational activities.

Monitor and record progress in notes form, providing feedback to family members and other caregivers.

Administer medications and adhere to any specific health care needs.

Ensure a safe and supportive environment.

Communicate effectively with the care team: family members, healthcare professionals, and educators.

Provide transportation as needed for appointments, activities, and errands during regular work hours.

Qualifications:

Formal Education is not paramount. A focus on soft skills such as patience, encouragement, counsel, humor, and groundedness is paramount. Emotional intelligence is highly valued.

Previous experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is strongly desired.

Understanding of autism spectrum disorders.

Personable communication and interpersonal skills.

Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Working Conditions:

Full-time (part-time considered) M-F, daytimes

Combination of in-home and community-based.

Ability to lift 50 lbs and walk 3 miles.
