Summary

Infant/Toddler teacher needed at First Steps with Saint Johns Program for Real Change in Sacramento. Must be able to work with all age groups including infants, toddlers, and pre-school age children. Must have a clear understanding of current preschool standards, emergent curriculum, and social-emotional development. All candidates must demonstrate culturally responsive care and work well with staff, student interns and volunteer learners. We provide a high quality early learning environment and on-the-job training to women experiencing homelessness. Make a difference and help break the cycle of poverty and dependence one family at a time.

Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Examples of Duties

Quality Care: Ability to manage large and small groups of children. Promote school readiness through early education and care. Promote cognitive and social emotional development in children.

Safety and Security: Practice universal precautions when handling babies and children. Prevent and manage emergencies according to Saint John's emergency protocol.

Classroom Environment and Operations: Maintain the classroom and facility both inside and outside, to ensure that it is clean and orderly at all times. Create an environment that welcomes children and encourages learning through play.

Qualifications

Must have experience working in a licensed childcare center

12 core ECE unites and 3 units in infant care.

CPR certification, background check clearance and proof of current immunizations required.

Proof of current immunizations required.

Organization Description

Saint John's operates the only program of its kind Sacramento County, and is built around an 12 “ 18 month curriculum of intensive life skills and vocational training for homeless mothers and children - the most rapidly rising segment of the homeless population nationally. Established in 1985, Saint Johns now provides a hand up and out of poverty through a trajectory of services focused on creating self-sufficiency. Included in this continuum are three housing programs, two public restaurants, including catering, and a public child care and development center. The mission of Saint Johns Program for Real Change is to unleash the potential of mothers in crisis to improve their quality of life and enrich the lives of their families.
