Job Description: Precision Sheet Metal Grinder
Position Overview
The Precision Sheet Metal Grinder is responsible for finishing, deburring, blending, and polishing fabricated metal components to exact specifications. This role plays a critical part in ensuring all parts leaving the fabrication process meet Southland Fabrication’s quality, dimensional, and cosmetic standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to work with a variety of grinding tools, abrasives, and finishing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Grinding & Finishing
Perform precision grinding, sanding, deburring, and blending on sheet metal parts (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.).
Use hand grinders, belt sanders, orbital sanders, and specialty finishing tools to achieve required surface finishes.
Ensure all edges, welds, and surfaces meet dimensional, cosmetic, and safety requirements.
Interpret finish specifications and follow internal standards for grain direction, edge quality, and surface uniformity.
Work from blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to understand finish requirements and part orientation.
Collaborate with welders, brake operators, and fabricators to ensure smooth workflow.
Maintain clean, organized work area and perform routine maintenance on grinding equipment.
2+ years of experience in metal grinding, sheet metal finishing, or fabrication environment (preferred).
Strong knowledge of abrasive tools, grinding techniques, and surface finish standards.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and part specifications.
High attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality work.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 50 lbs as needed.
Good communication skills and ability to work independently or with a team.
