Position Summary: The College Access and Teen Program Coordinator will oversee the Eureka! Program and other teen initiatives, delivering tailored programming for girls aged 12-18. They will cultivate partnerships, serve as a mentor, and facilitate hands-on experiences to support participants' academic and career journeys.
Eureka! Program Description: The Girls Inc. Eureka! Program is a robust, five-year college-bound initiative designed to instill confidence and immerse girls in STEM fields. Eureka! endeavors to expand girls' academic and career prospects, encourage enrollment in college-bound STEM courses, foster positive risk-taking, cultivate leadership and advocacy skills, and foster peer and mentor networks to aid in future endeavors.
Specific Responsibilities:
Oversees effective day-to-day operations of Eureka! and Teen Programs
Assist in recruitment, selection, registration, attendance, and program evaluation.
Deliver hands on activities and curricula related to literacy, science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM), social/emotional wellness, including healthy sexuality, academic support and outdoor adventures at our program center, area schools, and community settings for teen girls.
Plan and facilitate 3 monthly meetings and field trips
Coordinate logistics and scheduling of Eureka! program activities at UCSB during the summer communicating regularly with UCSB staff and partner organizations in partnership with STEM Coordinator.
Supervise and ensure the safety of all participants.
Coordinate and implement the Eureka! Externship Component, providing training and support for girls as well as host sites
Assist with transportation requirements as needed.
Produce calendar with participant opportunities annually.
Plan and coordinate annual College Road trip and Advocacy Trip to Washington DC
Plan, coordinate and facilitate parent meetings throughout the school year
Maintain and grow communication and collaboration with partner organizations
Evaluate program effectiveness and update and improve as necessary.
Manage and grow outreach opportunities at the middle school and high school levels for all grades.
Work with the program director and program staff to address any social, behavioral, or academic issues the girls may be facing
Provide girls with support for goal setting and academic success.
Establish and maintain regular contact with participants and families through phone calls, e-mail, mail, and informal meetings.
Work as a team with staff in making the program fun, positive and educational experience for the girls, utilizing your leadership role as a positive example for girls.
Participate in all staff training sessions and meetings, as required.
Follow all Girls Inc guidelines as set forth in employee handbook, staff notices, and staff meetings.
Maintain organization and cleanliness of program resources, supplies and activity area
Train, and supervise Eureka! summer and seasonal staff as needed
Support family and community engagement events as required.
Assist with activities or events outside of your normal schedule (occasional evenings and weekends)
Job requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
2+ years’ experience working with middle school-age in an educational setting girls and families representing diverse cultures, ethnicities, abilities, gender identity and sexual orientation required.
Group facilitation, behavioral management and conflict resolution skills gained in a working with adolescent youth
A strong desire to support students in improving their academic skills
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Motivation and strong problem-solving skills
Time management skills and ability to prioritize work
CPR and First Aid Certified
Ability to work flexibly in a fast-growing, changing atmosphere
Other:
California Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Class B license with Youth Bus certification
