Pacifica Graduate Institute is a privately accredited graduate school located near the coastal community of Santa Barbara, CA. Pacifica offers masters and doctoral degrees in psychology, mythological studies, and humanities, and is currently seeking a Bookstore Manager.

SUMMARY:

The Bookstore Manager provides operational and administrative supervision of a student bookstore operation and ancillary retail services. The position oversees and coordinates inventory control, sales and returns, vendor relations, cash management, and related reporting for the department. The position supervises shipping/receiving, sales, and merchandising staff. A successful candidate will work with purchasing and sales staff to achieve and maintain operating efficiencies and profitability while working in a cooperative work environment. The position is responsible for the oversight of all day-to-day bookstore operations including customer service, in-store merchandising, store management, and cash management. The position supervises a staff that coordinates purchasing, receiving, inventory management, shipping, and returns for the store. The manager prepares and administers store budgets, invoicing and accounts payable, and develops policies and procedures for the store.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages the operation of all campus bookstores, including purchasing of supplies and books, special orders, receiving and shipping, and return of overstocked or defective merchandise.

Develops ways to market the bookstore to the local community using direct marketing, social media and campus events for the purpose of building a larger customer base.

Supervises personnel, which typically include recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation/scheduling, and conflict resolution.

Oversees and coordinates the payment of invoices and freight bills on blanket purchase orders, small purchase orders, and check requests.

Oversees maintenance of stock, displays, signs, and inventory; manages year-end inventory utilizing computer to check for theft and shrinkage.

Represents the organization at various public events and conferences; promoting existing and new programs.

Works with faculty and vendors to acquire and assure availability of new/used texts and class supplies for students.

Develop and implement systems and processes to establish and maintain records for the Bookstore.

Review guidelines, policies, procedures, federal/state/local laws, and monitors compliance.

Works with MBS Direct to maintain an online textbook fulfillment student service.

Recommends, implements, and administers operating policies and procedures.

Prepares and administers the bookstore budget

Maintains the bookstore e-commerce website.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises Bookstore, and Shipping and Receiving staff.

Participate in hiring decisions and recommend discharge when appropriate.

Evaluate staff performance and file all necessary paperwork.

Assign performance increases when necessitated.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors Degree required, preferably in Business Administration.

5-8 years of progressive responsibility in retail and/or bookstore experience, required.

Familiarity to curriculum in psychology or the humanities, preferred.

Student service experience in an academic setting, preferred.

Policy development experience, preferred.

General office experience, preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Intermediate to advanced knowledge web design and HTML.

Experience with enrollment management systems; PowerCAMPUS preferred.

Experience with point of sale software; Booklog preferred.
