Description:

The Marin County Assessor’s Office is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Auditor-Appraiser I/II. This position plays a vital role in ensuring fair and equitable property taxation by performing audits and appraisals of business personal property in accordance with the California Revenue & Taxation Code and State Board of Equalization standards.

The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and committed to public service. They thrive in a collaborative environment, communicate clearly with the public and colleagues, and demonstrate strong professional integrity. Auditor-Appraisers evaluate financial records, conduct field and desk audits, analyze business operations, and apply standardized valuation methodologies to determine accurate assessments for inclusion on the annual tax roll.

At the Auditor-Appraiser I level, we are looking for individuals eager to develop knowledge and skills in accounting, auditing, appraisal, and California property tax laws. At the II level, candidates are expected to perform more complex assignments with greater independence and judgment.

Flex recruitment:

There is currently one (1) full time, 2-Year fixed term vacancy in the ARCC Business/Personal Property Division. Candidates will be considered for the level(s) for which they meet minimum qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:

Auditor-Appraiser I

o Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting; OR

o 18 semester units (or quarter equivalents) of accounting and/or auditing courses (Business law and economic classes may not contribute toward the 18 units); OR

o 19 semester units (or quarter equivalents), 16 units of which must be accounting and/or auditing courses and 3 units may be either business law or economic classes.

Auditor-Appraiser II: In addition to the above, equivalent to one year of experience in auditing financial data and in appraising business and other property in an Assessor’s office.

Certificates and Licenses:

Permanent appraiser certification issued by the California State Board of Equalization must be obtained within one year of appointment and certification must be maintained as a condition of continued employment. Possession and maintenance of a valid California class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving history as obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
