Singing teacher for small arts-focused private school

California, San francisco bay area 00000 San francisco bay area USA

Vacancy expired!

Summary:

Small, established private elementary school in midtown Santa Cruz currently seeking part-time (3 hours a week plus events) teacher to teach love and technique of singing and music to students in grades K-6.

Details:

This job would be teaching four 45-minute singing/music classes every week to mixed-grade groups of no more than 12 students each.

In all grades, we offer an ultra-enriched curriculum that meets each student at their level. You will have the opportunity to design and implement a perfect curriculum to teach to motivated, inspired, kind kids from kind families. In addition, you would be responsible for attending and preparing your students for a Spring Concert each year where all of the students sing for the parents (biside other talents). This would be a performance for each of our 4 groups of 12 students (roughly two songs per group), as well as an all-school song.

Who we are looking for:

A teacher whose primary focus will be grades kindergarten through 6th singing for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. This job is for approximately three hours per week, plus one performance.

The perfect candidate:

Someone with experience working with, teaching, and inspiring groups of children. Someone with experience teaching singing to students of varying levels. Someone quick on their feet, organized, flexible, and creative. Someone thrilled by the idea of creating a dream curriculum and teaching it to excited students. This would be an ideal job for an experienced teacher looking for enjoyable part-time work in a positive-discipline environment, a public-school teacher looking for a shift to an environment where all their students love to learn, or a young teacher with a passionate vision for the perfect singing curriculum. You must love teaching! You must be enthusiastic, commanding, and compassionate. Students adore you and also understand that when you walk into a room, class has begun. You have a strong desire to help all children grow emotionally, socially, and academically. You hear about our vision for a fun, interesting singing class and think, "That's my dream job!" You want to not only teach children how to sing well, but to sing for fun. You love singing and know how to teach others to feel the same.

You also ideally already have

-Previous experience teaching children.

-Experience teaching singing and music.

-A vision for your perfect elementary singing class and curriculum that allows for EVERY student to grow.

-Instruction in positive-discipline techniques, or the patience to learn them.

Responsibilities:

-Teach four 45-minute singing/music classes per week to mixed kindergarten through 6th grade classes of no more than 12 students at a time.

-Attend one performance and one staff meeting per year.

Who we are:

We are an intentionally small private school founded 27 years ago on the principle that learning is both intrinsically rewarding and deeply enjoyable. We are a community of students, teachers, and parents who endlessly seek out ways to tap into these truths. Because of our small size and large staff, we have built a space where each child is met and engaged where they are academically, socially, and emotionally. We create and curate a heavily enriched space for learners who are creative, curious, and kind. At SCCS, it is cool to be smart, kind, and to work hard at everything!

Why this job is awesome:

-Bright, kind, and enthusiastic learners

-A warm, supportive community of teachers and parents

-Freedom to implement your vision

-A budget that meets your needs

Pay: $50/hr
