The Local Butcher Shop, located in North Berkeley at Shattuck and Cedar, works with whole carcasses sourced from local and sustainable ranches and farms. Our crew is a fun, talented group of folks who enjoy customer service as well as learning. You should LOVE talking about food, and always be ready and willing to fill special requests.
Primary responsibilities include:
Preparing our daily sandwich
Assisting in the preparation of other value-added goods, such as sausages, deli meats, ptés, rendered fats, stocks, soups, and stews
Assisting with the organization of workspaces and food storage spaces
Cleaning and maintaining kitchen workspace
Our ideal candidate will come in with basic culinary know-how, but we are happy to provide training for the right person - it's more important to us that you are friendly, outgoing, a hard worker and eager to learn! Hours are generally 7:30-4, five days per week, with additional hours required around major holidays. You must be available to work weekends. You must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
Wages start at $18.07/hour and go up from there depending on experience and ability. We are also a worker-owned cooperative, part-ownership and profit-sharing opportunities are available to those interested in becoming a member of the cooperative.
