Line Cook at Spanish Wine Bar

California, San francisco bay area 00000 San francisco bay area USA
Apply Now

We are seeking an experienced cook who is interested in a different sort of environment than a typical restaurant. We are willing to train the right person so experience isn't the only factor, but you need to have a great work ethic and be willing to do things the hard way for the sake of quality. That being said, experience does speak volumes so please have some. The ideal candidate has full-time availability, but we are willing to consider part-time for the right fit.

We run a very small menu and the kitchen would consist of only you most days. The menu is designed with this in mind. We take pride in working with local and seasonal ingredients, and hope that you value this as well. The menu is constantly changing and of course your creative input would be encouraged. This position requires full flexibility in schedule so please have that or you will not be considered.

About Us

We are a 50-seat wine bar in San Francisco with a major emphasis on Spanish-inspired bar food and beverages. We opened in March of 2019 with a very small team, and have been learning a lot and growing as we go. While food averages out to about a third of our sales, our regulars love us for the food and it's a major point of distinction from the other bars in the area. Volume can vary a lot from day to day, though usually between 25 and 75 food covers.

About You

You work fast, clean, and hard, but never at the expense of quality or safety. You can be highly self-sufficient with nobody hovering over your shoulder. At the same time, you receive and process feedback well and can follow instructions from the chef, not above washing your own dishes and dicing your own onions when you work alone. Ideally, you love Spanish cuisine (not the same as Latin American cuisine), ingredient-driven cooking, and rustic, unpretentious aesthetics. And you're comfortable with occasional customer interaction (in other words: we have an open kitchen and you will usually run your own food). This position requires solid communication with the chef and you will work closely with him to ensure that quality, safety and cleanliness are met all the time. Fluency in English is a requirement, and proficiency in Spanish is a major plus.

The Job

To start, you'll work a few long shifts with the chef so he can train you properly and you have a strong grasp of the routines. This is a full-time opportunity for the right candidate, although we can consider bringing someone on part-time on a case-by-case basis. Typical hours would be 10am-6pm for prep shifts or 5-11pm for line shifts, up to five days a week. Pay is competitive, and includes tips based on food sales which are often generous. The business also covers up to 50% of healthcare plans for full-time staff. We are still a new and growing business, so our hope is that you can grow with us.

Physical requirements:

regularly required to stand up for 8 hours at a time

occasionally required to bend, climb, or reach

occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds
