The Auraria Campus Police Department provides the full spectrum of Law Enforcement services (emergency, non-emergency, technical and communications support) to the Auraria Campus Community as State of Colorado Peace Officers. This position requires rotating shift work. You must be willing and able to work shift work. Duties of the Position:The Police Officer I position responds to a variety of civil matters as well as enforces applicable local, state, and federal laws. Duties include, writing reports; performing preliminary investigations; collecting evidence; responding to various alarms; detecting and arresting wrongdoers; and community policing activities. Auraria Campus Police employ various policing methods including foot, bike and vehicle patrol. Additionally, officers perform crowd management functions at a large number of special events.This position is also required to participate in ongoing training in a variety of law enforcement practices and techniques. Police Officers at AHEC must qualify in firearms proficiency on a quarterly basis.Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of current Colorado P.O.S.T. certification and one (1) year or more in Patrol experience in a solo status.

ADDITIONAL SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Positions are subject to a background investigation in accordance with the administrative procedures of the State Personnel Director. Physical and psychological evaluations are required in accordance with section 24-31-303 (5)(b), C.R.S.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be at least 21 years of age

Must possess a valid and unencumbered Colorado Driver License

Must be able to satisfactorily pass a background investigation, demonstrating:

No Felony or Domestic Violence convictions

No more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver license.

No alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and no repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten (10) years.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The applicant must successfully pass a physical agility and written exam. Both of these exams will be scheduled at a later date. Candidates will be notified of location for physical agility testing and written examination prior to test date.

Positions require a personal and employment background investigation which may include a polygraph interview, fingerprint check and drug screen.

The Background investigation is part of the exam process. The policy of Auraria Police Services is to apply uniform standards of integrity and conduct to all employees without regard to assignment within the agency. Candidates must pass the minimum employment standards for Police Officers to continue in the examination and interviewing process.

After a conditional offer of employment is made, each prospective employee will be required to provide proof of a POST certificate and submit to physical and psychological examinations by a doctor or health care facility which is selected or approved by the Auraria Police Services in order to determine whether or not a prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job. Failure to pass the physical and/or the psychological evaluation will result in removal from this employment list.
