Department InformationThese two positions are open to applications from Colorado residents and non-residents.These internships are paid temporary part-time up to full-time positions (minimum 24 hours/week). These positions do not provide benefits however, CDOT offers all Interns (temporary employees) paid sick leave . Temporary employees accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, capped at forty-eight 48 hours. Temporary positions will exist for 9 months or less. These positions will participate in the development of materials that help implement ongoing planning projects of the CDOT Multimodal Planning Branch including but not limited to, Statewide and Regional Planning and public outreach activities.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for the Multimodal Intern include the following but not limited to:

Development of materials and participation in activities to support implementation of the 2045 Statewide Transportation Plan and development of the 2050 Statewide Transportation Plan;

Assist in development and management of the CDOT accessible transportation planning webpages observing relevant Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards, and development of relevant infographics as needed;

Create materials such as maps, charts, diagrams, fact sheets, illustrations, handouts, website graphics, reports, and slide decks-that make planning concepts resonate with non-technical audiences;

Assist with converting and/or creating new web content to meet the State’s digital accessibility standards;

Support planning work as needed for the following branches: DTD Multimodal Planning, Freight Mobility and Safety, Innovative Mobility Office and the DTD Asset Management;

Support analysis of bicycle & pedestrian, freight and other multimodal transportation infrastructure as needed across the state using inventory data and GIS skillsets;

Assist in statewide and regional public outreach and communications projects, including the Statewide Transportation Advisory Committee (STAC) and other transportation planning partner and advisory committee meetings with Transportation Planning Regions (TPRs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs);

Perform research on state-of-the-practice data analysis for transportation policy, public engagement, technology and economic activities and develop methodologies for implementation;

Develop communication tools of the results from data analysis to a wide variety of audiences;

Conduct statistical and geospatial analysis of transportation, demographic, economic, and other datasets as needed;

Participate in special projects and miscellaneous tasks as needed to support the activities of the Division of Transportation Development, including clerical and organizational tasks;

Utilzes the following: Adobe Acrobat, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Work Environment:

This position is based at CDOT's Statewide Headquarters

Expected work schedule is between Monday through Friday

It is anticipated that this role will worky a minimum of 24 hours per week

Any college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in the following: Business Administration, Finance, Planning (regional, transportation or urban), Political Science, Public Administration or a closely related field. OR

A recent college graduate. Recently graduated means the individual should have attended an accredited college or university and have graduated with an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree in Business Administration, Finance, Planning (regional, transportation or urban), Political Science, Public Administration or a closely related field within three calendar years.
