Live-in Caregiver for Teenager

Looking for a full time care-giver for a 14-year old special needs child. Child is going to Rocky Mountain High and has an active IEP. Both parents live in the home and he has one older sibling. Payment is through Colorado Caregivers as qualified CNA and Waiver services.

Child is affectionate, fun and has a joyous disposition. He is strong, mobile and generally acts with care and safety. He does not require high attention / supervision while playing in the residence or back yard. He maintains playful interactions with our 3 dogs and many house guests.

Child has multiple disabilities that include:

- Very limited verbal communications (2 words)

- Limited motor skills (need assistance with dressing and bathroom)

- Intellectual development

Job expectations are below:

Weekday Mornings

- Wake up, shower & dressing for school

- Preparing and eating breakfast

- Walk or drive to bus stop (1/4 mile from home at approximately 8AM)

After School Support

- Bus stop to home transition (Approximately 4 pm)

- Monitored home play & language exercise support

- Dinner eating support (no cooking required)

- Bedtime support (between 8 and 9 pm every night)

No weekday support needed while child is at school or sleeping

Weekend Care:

- Care-giver and parents to collaborate the month prior to select two weekends (Friday 5 pm – Sunday 5 pm) per month for additional support.

- During the β€œon” weekends, parents may or may not be in the home and care-giver is to provide all care and support requirements day and night.

Living Situation:

- Basement was finished with the intention of supporting an individual live-in care-giver.

- Child space and care giver space are the only two bedrooms in the basement.

- Care-giver space has a private and lockable door that has a small bedroom, living area and bathroom.

- Basement also has a theater space and kitchen.

Keys to Success

- Have the patience to require use of his talking device (iPad with NovaChat) and help encourage decision-making.

- Keep a collaborative dialog with parents, teachers and professional therapists at Rocky Mountain High School.

- Actively reinforce the efforts done by other therapists and address disruptive behaviors.

- Support consistent use of bathroom to minimize diaper requirements.

Qualifications

- Physically capable of maintaining safety when child is not compliant. He resists teeth brushing and can occasionally run toward the street without consideration of traffic.

- Education and/or training on child development within the special needs community.

- Must be a Certified Nursing Aid or willing to complete the required coursework immediately.

- CPR Certified

- Pass background check through Colorado Caregivers

Benefits include:

- Annual salary paid through Colorado Family Caregivers of $60,000 min per year

(tax free and not considered income by the IRS).
