Job Summary: Assist in the initial placement and rough finish of concrete, by performing duties assigned by the Foreman. Duties include using, supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.
Work safely at all times, participate in all crew planning discussions, and observe all CRI Policies, OSHA Regulations, and Site Specific requirements and policies.
Perform all duties associated with pouring and finishing concrete, including those of the Concrete Carpenter and Concrete Laborer.
Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired elevation, depth, and alignment.
Check the forms that hold the concrete to make sure they are properly constructed.
Properly place, position and secure reinforcing as directed by the Concrete Foreman.
Spread, level and smooth concrete using rake, shovel, hand or power tools, hand screed, and float.
Vibrate newly poured concrete to ensure proper consolidation.
Monitor how the wind, heat or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process.
Produce the desired concrete surface, using approved finishing methods and tools.
Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers and straightedge.
Clean chipped areas, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven.
Signal truck driver to position truck to facilitate pouring concrete and move chute to direct concrete into forms.
Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concreate, and waterproof or restore surface.
Take action to protect concrete surfaces from the detrimental effects of weather as necessary.
Procure and maintain all personal tools needed to perform the duties of this position.
Assist the Concrete Foreman in instructing and training the Concrete Carpenter and Laborer in the skills necessary to perform their tasks.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required
Skills: Must be proficient with all types of hand held finishing and carpentry tools.
Must be able to communicate in English proficiently.
Abilities: Can communicate effectively with others; able to clearly lead/direct operations involving multiple tools, pieces of machinery and equipment; can learn and retain new skills.
