Personalized Investing Engineering (PIE) is part of the Schwab Technology Services organization and is responsible for delivering a suite of Schwab automated investing products, including Schwab Intelligent Portfolios and Schwab Intelligent Portfolios Premium. Schwab Intelligent Portfolios is a fully automated investment advisory service with features such as goal tracking, automatic rebalancing, and tax-loss harvesting. Schwab Intelligent Portfolios Premium is a hybrid advisory service that takes the benefits from Schwab Intelligent Portfolios and adds in financial planning and live credentialed professionals. As an engineer in PIE, you will be helping troubleshoot production issues and work on innovation projects for platform stability in a flexible, collaborative and rapidly changing delivery environment. It requires highly motivated and focused developers curious to improve solutions for our clients.

What you are good at

We're looking for someone passionate about problem solving for our clients. The software engineer will be part of a development team responsible for interpreting production support issues, presenting solutions, and executing any fixes needed for enterprise-level applications. This individual will also work on innovation items pertaining, but not limited to, code quality, platform health, and logging improvements. Initiative should be taken when opportunities arise to influence and/or improve the efficiencies of the SDLC process. The candidate will become a key member and active participant on a highly collaborative and self-organizing agile team.
  • Problem solve in a collaborative environment with an emphasis on triaging, fixing, and delivering code.
  • Analyze, debug, develop, and modify software used in local, cloud, networked, mobile, or Internet-related technology. Code may be used in commercial and/or end-user applications.
  • Work with teammates to influence and implement improvements and efficiencies in the technical aspects of the development process.
  • Work directly with other teams to remediate downtime customers encounter.
  • Collaborate with other developers/teams to ensure the highest quality software is developed, delivered, and maintained.
  • Interact with users and/or stakeholders to define parameters for necessary modifications.

What you have

  • 1-3 years of software development experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field OR related practical experience
  • Coursework and/or experience in:
  • Object oriented languages such as Java, C#, or C
  • Software engineering principles, such as software design patterns
  • Database principles, such as SQL, Oracle, MongoDB or Hadoop
  • User interfaces, such as HTML5, JavaScript, CSS
  • Knowledge and/or experience in:
  • Web service design and implementation
  • Software development lifecycle
  • Open source libraries, frameworks, or tools
  • Javascript frameworks such as React or Angular
  • A yearning to:
  • Understand and leverage new tools and technologies
  • Leverage technology to build products that "wow" users
  • Strong work ethic, technical skills, and the ability to problem solve and partner with individuals across the organization are required.
