Title: Lead Software Engineer Location: Hartford, CT Type of hire: Permanent JOB DETAIL As the Lead Software Engineer for the Interoperability team, you will set the technical direction and govern the engineering processes on that team. You will work closely with architecture to understand the overall technical roadmap for the Payments and Billing Transformation (PBT) in particular for the interoperability accountabilities. You will work with your team, architecture, and leadership to ensure any technical roadblocks are identified and resolved to ensure commitments are completed on-time and in-sequence based on overall priority. You will use your experience and ability to influence and guide others to help set strategic technical direction for a given solution, ensuring that it aligns to long-term architectural direction and meets or exceeds business expectations. Strategically, this role will interface with many groups outside of the Enterprise Payments and Billing (EP&B) Value Stream, including external to Travelers. This position will use modern architecture principles like event-driven design, microservices, APIs, and cloud-native (AWS) to develop, test, and support resilient and secure technical solutions in an Agile setting. You will lead and mentor software engineers throughout the SDLC process and bring a self-led learning approach to encourage growth among individuals and the team. In this role you will have the opportunity to shape and develop the talent on your team through coaching, mentoring, and empowering others. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be engaged at all levels of the organization to ensure propagation of engineering best practices to include tool optionality, configuration, learning, coaching, development, etc. You will represent the Enterprise Payments and Billing Value Stream and Corporate Tech by participating in enterprise-wide Software Engineering Excellence (SEE) events, offering new ways to approach engineering and the adoption of cloud-based solutions. Experience required:

  • Experience working in an agile environment
  • Experience with Cloud-based Software Delivery
  • Experience with AWS Lambda platform
  • Experience with Java, Python
  • Experience with APIs using MuleSoft or AWS API Gateway
  • Experience with event-driven technologies like AWS EventBridge, Kafka, SQS
  • Experience with CI/CD DevOps tools like Jenkins, UCD, GitHub Actions
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience leading/ mentoring other software engineers
  • Willingness to learn
Skillsets/ Experience preferred:
  • Payments and Billing or FinTech experience
  • Working knowledge and experience implementing capabilities based on event-based and microservice architectures
  • Working knowledge and understanding of data domain and data integration technologies/capabilities
  • Working knowledge and experience with business rules engine (IBM ODM preferred)
  • Experience implementing large scale, cloud-based application and platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Working knowledge of native AWS Services
  • Experience with AWS EKS
  • Experience with NoSQL databases like AWS DynamoDB, MongoDB
  • Experience with Terraform Enterprise
  • Experience with Testing Automation and TDD
