Food Market Cashier/Sales Associate

About us: Opening in January, The Georgetown Owl will be a small restaurant and food market located on Main Street in Georgetown, Connecticut, a charming little village in Redding. The market will feature breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pastries and prepared foods, and perishable and nonperishable food items for purchase.
The responsibilities of the Food Market Cashier/Sales Associate include ringing up customers, customer service (being friendly and ready to answer questions is a must), maintaining a clean food service environment, restocking shelves, monitoring inventory levels, and other duties assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service:
Greet customers and assist them with locating products or answering any questions
Use Clover POS to ring up and process transactions as a cashier for customers
Provide friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable service to customers
Handle customer complaints or concerns promptly and escalate to management as needed
Work closely with chef, cooks, and kitchen staff to ensure prompt service and accurate ordering
Stocking and Merchandising:
Stock shelves with food products and ensure proper pricing and monitor stock levels
Ensure perishable items are properly stored and maintained
Assist in conducting inventory and stock counts
Maintain records of stock and deliveries
Cleaning and Organization:
Maintain cleanliness in the store, including sweeping floors and cleaning spills
Ensure all food items are stored according to health and safety regulations
Regularly check that the store and storage rooms are tidy and organized
Health & Safety:
Follow all health and safety guidelines, including food handling and sanitation
Maintain safe working conditions in the store
Preferred qualifications:
A CT food handlers permit (preferred but can be completed after hiring)
Previous retail or customer service experience
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and a friendly demeanor
Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently
Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 40 pounds throughout a shift
Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Ability to operate point-of-sale (POS) equipment
Work Environment:
Fast-paced, collaborative environment
Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods
Exposure to various food products, including allergens
Compensation is an hourly wage based on experience, plus employee discounts on food products.
