The Georgetown medical experience is centered in cura personalis — care for a person’s psychological, spiritual, social well-being in addition to their physical well-being.The Research Assistant (RA) will support the day-to-day functioning of the laboratory, helping the Principal Investigator (PI) with lab management. This position is crucial for the organization and functioning of the lab and to meet grant and publication timelines. Directly reporting to the principal investigator Dr. Sreejith Nair (Assistant Professor, Department of Oncology), additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintain an accurate record of reagent and instrument purchases, chemical and biological inventory.

Help the PI and other lab members to perform experiments, record data, analyze results.

Engage in both laboratory research and managerial activities, working with other lab members to perform lab experiments, analyze data, and purchase research materials.

Work closely with vendors, the Georgetown purchase department, and the neighboring laboratories to ensure accuracy in deliverables.

Perform good science, publish papers, and acquire grant funding.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s level training in Biology, Chemistry, or related field

2 years of previous experience as part of a research team in an academic setting

2 years of previous experience in basic molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, computational biology

Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

Ability to work as a part of a team, mentor, and train new members on routine techniques

Working experience in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Ability to partake in training related to occupational safety and health compliance

Previous experience of working in a similar position a plus

Basic skills in computer programming and/or genomic data analysis a plus
