We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Intern to join our dynamic team. This internship offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining hands-on experience in the field of Traffic Engineering. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn and contribute to various projects while developing valuable skills in a professional environment.

Duties:

Conduct traffic evaluations and field investigations to review requests for traffic safety and /or operational improvements associated with roadway signing, pavement marking, physical conditions, etc. based on the Department's guidelines and principles and the guiding principles as presented in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Coordinate the implementation of signing and marking improvements and prepares work orders that specify the required signing and marking installation and enters information from work orders into the County's database system.

Prepare clear and concise signing and marking drawings using CADD, which includes crosswalks, stop bars, raised pavement markers, directional arrows, and the installation and removal of signs.

Use GIS Arc View, which includes manipulating layers, creating views, acquiring street addresses, copying, exporting and printing maps.

Conduct field surveys of existing traffic control devices including all signing and pavement markings.

Make decisions regarding traffic control signs and pavement markings in the field, and coordinate work with the Sign and Marking Shop in all aspects of signs and pavement markings installations.

Prepare written reports of field observation and making recommendations related to the installation and modification of traffic control devices.

Experience:

High School diploma or GED

Basic knowledge of technical writing, AutoCAD, and CAD software is advantageous.

Microsoft Office Suite - Access, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Understanding of civil engineering concepts is a plus.

Experience with GIS tools and transportation planning will enhance your application.

A proactive attitude towards learning and a willingness to take on new challenges is essential.
