ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must successfully pass a background check that includes a criminal history check and must be approved by the Department of Correction’s contract Manager, or designee and complete required orientation/training in the supervision of inmates, prior to assuming supervision. Shall attend refresher training annually thereafter. Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed. JOB DUTIES: This position has heavy emphasis on electrical skills, construction and interpretation of building codes. Responsible to the Equipment/Construction Specialist for the facilities at Withlacoochee Forestry Center with respect to health, fire and safety in renovations and repairs. Share responsibility for planning the support services requirements for the fixed facilities within Withlacoochee Forestry Center. Coordinate and make repairs and renovations to electrical, mechanical, and structural, plumbing, water, septic, and site preparation of infrastructure. Instruct and assist in the preventative maintenance program. Inspect, repair, and document needs for major renovations. Arrange for facility appraisals and emergency repairs. Arrange for and coordinate with the State Fire Marshall’s Office for the annual fire safety inspection. Coordinate with the state Department of Environmental Protection Office and local health departments on issues relating to the environmental health and sanitation standards to ensure code requirements are being met and maintained. Provide technical support for the planning of construction projects within Withlacoochee Forestry Center. Develop all schedule of values, bill of materials and specifications for such projects. Make code requirement checks through interaction with local state and federal agencies as needed. This position supervises inmates on an as needed basis. Assignments may include, but not be limited to, landscaping and grounds maintenance activities performed on the headquarters area, residence sites, forest wide recreation areas, and other areas as assigned. The incumbent will also be responsible for training assigned offenders in the safe use and care of tools, methods and practices of timber stand improvement, tree seedling propagation and care, erosion control, road maintenance, facilities construction and maintenance, and other state lands management and/or maintenance activities. Supervise inmates who are involved in special projects such as tree planting, land preparation in cattle demonstration area and improvement of the field trial area, and yearly pinecone collection.
