Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve asVocational Training Supervisor I – SES. T his position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented. Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

This position is responsible for supervising Vocational Instructors and Food Support Workers.

Prepares Performance Evaluations, counsels, and reviews performance evaluations. Recommends hiring, discharge, promotion, and discipline. May service on screening committee.

Supervises inmates in the repairs and maintenance of machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacture specifications using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments.

Ensures mechanical devices such as pumps, engines, motors, conveyor systems, kitchen and dining room equipment are in good operation. Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts and repairs or places defective parts.

Supervises the delivery of resident food to units in a timely manner and ensures quality of delivered product.

Initiates purchase orders for parts and keeps record cards for equipment showing type and model number, installation and servicing.

While on duty, follow and carries out Florida State Hospital Unit/Department safety practices and policies.

Performs other related duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position:

Knowledge of skilled vocations such as industrial arts, shoe repair, general maintenance, plumbing, welding or printing.
