We support the implementation of resource-efficient community development practices through direct training/educational activities, applied research projects/case studies, and performance measurement, verification, and benchmarking programs.The Energy Conservation initiative is focused on housing. In 1999, Energy Efficient Building Construction in Florida was developed to support continuing education training for licensed building contractors. This 250+ page manual/book is based on the Florida Energy Code and is regularly updated to reflect changes in the code. It is currently in its 11th edition. In collaboration with the Florida Energy Systems Consortium (FESC), PREC has also been responsible for developing coordinated and comprehensive publications on energy-efficiency topics and supporting delivery of Extension housing and energy conservation programs that leverage and build off of these publications. Finally, PREC has a longstanding working relationship with the Community Weatherization Coalition (CWC), a non-profit group that engages with local residents and housing experts to improve energy efficiency and reduce utility costs for low-income residents and families in Alachua County. Our program’s success hinges on building and maintaining strong, transparent, and trusted professional relationships with academic, public-sector, and industry partners, collaborators, and clientele.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESThe position will support PREC’s Energy Conservation Initiative and engage in three core activities. First, the position will serve as publisher of and sales manager for PREC’s Energy Efficient Build Construction in Florida book (currently in its 11th Edition) Second, the position will directly support activities of the Florida Home Energy Equity Coalition (FEEC) Team, comprised of UF, FAMU, and CWC members working on holistic statewide Extension energy programming for current Florida residents and communities. Third, the position will serve as a technical advisor for applying renewable energy and energy efficiency practices in new master planned community developments. This role directly supports PREC’s Sustainable Floridians Benchmarking & Monitoring Program (SF-BMP) that is delivered in partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Florida Chapter.DUTIES & ACTIVITIESPublisher and Sales Manager (Energy Efficient Build Construction in Florida): Edit, review, format, maintain version control, and generally safeguard the integrity of the Energy Efficient Build Construction in Florida electronic manuscript and printed books. Publicize, market, and improve awareness of the publication among targeted users including but not limited to Florida licensed contractors and built environment professionals, instructors, and book resellers. Manage book pricing, licensing (i.e., ISBN), sales, printing, distribution, billing, receipts and vendor relations. Maintain internal accounting (UF PREC) and external fiscal records(book sales/clientele).Coordinator (Florida Energy Equity Coalition Team): Support planning and development of energy and housing content, curriculum, techniques, and competencies for relevant Florida Extension trainings and educational programs. Coordinate compilation, review, updating, standardization, and distribution of identified pertinent energy-related educational materials to County Extension faculty. Provide organizational, administrative, and program evaluation and impact reporting services in support of energy related ISTs and other statewide housing an energy conservation initiatives (such as pilot county “Home Energy Tune-Up” programs modeled after CWC’s work in Alachua County).Analyst (Sustainable Floridians Benchmarking & Monitoring Program): Provide energy conservation subject matter expertise to guide SF-BMP project priorities, principles, and recommendations in new urban development projects. Assist with developing and structuring SF-BMP performance frameworks, with a focus on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable and inclusive transportation strategies. Independently manage and/or support timely completion of SF-BMP energy-related applied research, “living laboratory” energy projects, and workload reporting. Interpret and communicate findings from technical analyses for use by different target audiences (e.g., developers, engineers, planners, builders, homeowners, landscape professionals). Support creation of professional presentations, technical reports, publications, and other communications related to SF-BMP energy conservation elements.
