21.95 per hour | Miami, FL, USA | Hourly | Full Time GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE The Grounds Maintenance Laborer is responsible for the overall upkeep and maintenance of industrial, commercial, or public property grounds such as buildings, camp and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, athletic fields, military bases, and runways.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

Mow grass, using walking-type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs)

Trim hedges and edges around walkways, flowerbeds, and wells

Prune shrubs, and trees to shape and improve growth using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools

Spray lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide

Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs

Water lawn and shrubs when needed using a hose or activating sprinkler system

Collect and burn or cart away leaves, paper, or other litter

Remove snow from walkways, driveways, roads, or parking lots using a shovel and snow blower

Spread salt on walkways and other areas if needed

Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings

Assist in the repair of roads, sidewalks, buildings, and mechanical equipment

May clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing

Any and all other duties assigned by your Supervisor/Manager/Lead

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

EXPERIENCE: Three to five years of experience in lawn and pavement care/maintenance in an industrial setting is preferred.

SKILLS:

Must have good communication skills, have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English

Must be able to read and comply with work orders concerning grounds service and maintenance

The ability to use a variety of tools, including mowers, edgers, clippers, wheelbarrows, and hand tools safely

Must be able to alert oneself to safety hazards and have a method of communication so that the individual and those around can understand and respond

ADDITIONAL:

Hands-on ability to work in a team-oriented environment.

Required to work independently and with limited supervision

Comply with all policies, safety guidelines, and procedures; follow all contract specifications and maintain compliance

Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

HS Diploma or GED required

Valid Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work is performed primarily outdoors so exposure to various temperatures and weather including snow, sleet, rain, wind, dust, dirt, and the like are possible. Must be able to work in hot or cold temperatures. This position requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and pushing or pulling up to 75 pounds, with or without assistance. Constant walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, and balancing may be needed.WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT This position is full-time (40 hours per week), seasonal; and may include some shift work including Saturdays and Sundays. Ability to work overtime as needed.ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL This position is designated as essential.
