Job Title: Lead, Electrical Engineer-Avionics Product Hardware Job Code: 18001 Job Location: St Petersburg, FL, or Grand Rapids, MI Schedule: 9/80 alt with every other Friday off Job Description: The Lead Product Hardware Engineer is the engineering focal and owner for sustainment of all Technical Aspects of the Recorders Product Line. The Product HW Engineer provides technical leadership to engineering team members that are also supporting the product line. He/She owns technical decision-making process for the product, enabling the team to make decisions in a rapid and successful manner. Product HW Engineer is responsible for engaging other engineering participants with discipline specific backgrounds to resolve issues and provide a unified engineering response. The engineer is a key participant representing engineering for the product line in all major Product Improvements and Design Changes, with a focus on continuity for the product’s technical strategy. Product HW Engineer will act as the primary product line engineering point of contact for Program Management Office, Quality, Factory Operations, Supply Chain (Procurement), Repair & Overhaul and Customer Support. The individual will ensure technical, schedule and cost targets are met. Essential Functions:
Review parts obsolescence and find replacement parts, including full evaluation of replacement to determine the scope of work involved with implementing the replacement
Responsible for writing or contributing to generation of Hardware Change Impact Analysis (HCIA) for proposed part changes
Lead robust Root Cause Failure Investigations including generation of 9S reports
Experience designing or troubleshooting high reliability electronics
Good understanding of product development lifecycle processes
Knowledge of engineering design standards for commercial aviation industry
Experience with troubleshooting Test Software, RF Test Equipment, RF circuitry, power supplies, digital circuits, embedded software, and mechanical assemblies
Exhibit good leadership skills and have the ability to coach teammates on technical issues
Experience working in a Continuous Improvement Culture with LEAN engineering practices
Ability to work in a teaming environment, while possessing good interpersonal and communications skills
Self-motivated to identify performance issues and provide potential solutions through strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Must be a US CItizen or Green Card holder
Preferred Additional Skills:
Partner with the Program Manager to ensure the success of the program technical, schedule and cost targets properly defined and met.
Constantly engage with cross-functional leaders, defending the program's needs and priorities
Provide engineering technical support for Operations to help ensure the correct Production Processes and Acceptance Testing of the Product occurs.
Engineering Technical support for Supplier Quality and Supply Chain to help ensure that the correct technical decisions are being made for non-conformances, part substitutions and supplier manufacturing alterations.
Engineering Technical support for Customer Support to help customers with technical issues and questions related to the Product.
Support Operations, Quality and Return & Overhaul in analyzing issue reports (for example: DFM, DFT and/or yield), to identify systemic design or test issues.
Initiate continuous improvements that involve engineering and factory working together to improve efficiency and quality.
Ensure that any potential certification compliance issues are escalated and coordinated with Engineering Management.
Maintain historical understanding of the Product's configurations (hardware, software and test)
