Job Description

SUMMARY

Develops manufacturing processes based on customer blueprints and specifications. Troubleshoots process problems and provides technical support to manufacturing to ensure the production of dimensionally sound castings at the lowest possible cost.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Utilizes process knowledge, basic engineering principles, previous experience, and creativity as necessary to develop processes that result in the production of quality castings that conform to customer specifications and time tables.

Reviews customer instructions and blueprints to ascertain customer specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment.

Analyzes nature of technical problem and determines possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, rearrangement of parts or subassemblies, changes in slurry mix or shell building process, temperature variations in the casting process, heat treating alternatives, etc.

Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and determines appropriate modification or adjustment of equipment, process, product or test method.

Records test procedures and results using both numerical and graphical data.

Reviews all layouts, tool reworks and tool construction as necessary to ensure consistency and repeatability of process results.

Acts as coordinator between Sales, Engineering, Tool Shop, Quality Control, Production Control, and Manufacturing while parts are being processed.

Plans and conducts experimental runs.

Records steps to follow at each operation in the production of parts for newly developed processes.

Ensures that Engineering records are updated with the most current information concerning new processes or any modifications to existing processes.

Provides support and guidance to Junior Engineers in solving metallurgical and dimensional problems.

Assists in the development and training of Junior Engineers and Engineering Technicians.

Qualifications

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

8 years+ experience in the Aerospace or Industrial gas turbine investment castings

TYPICAL EDUCATION:

BS Engineering (Mechanical, Material Science, Chemical or Aerospace), required; Equivalent experience may be considered.
