Indoor citrus nursery position

A full-time other personnel position (OPS), 37 hours per week, is available now at the University of Florida's Mature Citrus Facility in Lake Alfred, FL, offering health benefits and FICA Alternative retirement. The position involves working in an indoor, air-conditioned citrus nursery during regular working hours. The duties include grafting citrus, watering, sterilizing soil, preparing pots for transplanting, transplanting citrus rootstock seedlings, and peeling citrus seeds. Additional responsibilities might include fertilization, spraying insecticidal soap, sweeping/mopping floors, disposing of plants, washing pots, and any other duties as requested by the supervisor. The employee must be able to lift or use a hand truck to carry 40 pounds of soil to the sterilizer and 40 pounds of salt to the water softener. The employee must be able to use a computer and be fluent in English. This employee must be able to work at 77°F at 60% RH. Pay starts at $16/hour. The employee must have at least a high school diploma, an interest in or knowledge of plants, and be able to accept instruction. Transportation to and from work is also necessary.
