Cyber Security Software Engineer – CIPHER

Job Description:
  • The CLIENT CIPHER Lab's Command and Control Mission Assurance (C2MA) Division is currently seeking a cyber security software engineer for its Air Force Command and Control (C2) Branch. This person will work within a cohesive team to develop secure solutions to complex challenges, involving web applications, DevSecOps (DSO), legacy system modernization, and cloud native solutions. Ideal candidates should have a strong understanding of industry standard software development practices, and demonstrated experience in designing, prototyping, building, and testing complex software, from initial requirements through implementation, verification, testing, and deployment. The position supports the analysis, design, development, testing, fielding of Cybersecurity enhancements of critical C2 & C4ISR architectures for various Air Force sponsors.

Job Purpose:
  • Software developer designs develops, and tests code in languages such as Java, C, and C. Requires extensive knowledge of programming languages, software development, and computer operating systems. Applies engineering principles to software creation. Necessary skill areas: Programming and coding, fundamentals of computer science, design and architecture, algorithms and data structures, information analysis, debugging software, and testing software.Creates Client cyber security technology components and software to ensure that critical systems/information are resilient to cyber exploits and attacks. Performs attendant vulnerability assessments, analysis, and software engineering and design. Develops hardware and software prototypes and tests those prototypes in realistic environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, test, and develop computer software in order to meet requirements.
  • Develop and maintain kernel and user-level software and scripts.
  • Contribute to research reports, white papers, and competitive proposals.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Engineers are responsible for operating hybrid infrastructure developer platforms deployed on private as well as commercial cloud infrastructures at an individual contributor level.
  • Maintaining automated containerization development and deployment strategies for past, present and future enterprise environments. Experience at developing APIs to consolidate monitoring and maintaining enterprise environments for real-time assessment of operational environments of outdated/unpatched systems to ensure minimal vulnerability.
  • Collaborate on idea creation and development of the DSO tool chain along with supporting the ongoing lifecycle maintenance of that tool chain.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate as an individual contributor the following:
  • Extensive experience with collaborative, agile development environment
  • Experience using Atlassian tool suite; Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, etc.
  • Experience in deploying and utilizing containerization automation such as Kubernetes.
  • Experience with on-prem, hybrid, and commercial cloud utilization & management.
  • Be able to architect, provision and manage a secure cloud infrastructure utilizing infrastructure as code (IaaC) methodology.
  • Strong programming skills in Java, Python, Ansible, Powershell, and/or C
  • Comfortable with performing in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working classified DoD projects.
  • Experience with XML, JSON, HTML, JavaScript, RHEL7-8, and Git

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Experience with C4ISR environments used in Department of Defense (DOD) systems.
  • Experience facilitating dialogue, collaboration, and partnerships among research personnel, government, and industry stakeholders.
  • Experience with business development activities including identifying opportunities, proposal writing, and cost estimates.

Travel Requirements:10% - 25% travel.

Education and Length of Experience
