Kforce has a client in search of a Senior Associate Linux Systems Engineer in Brookhaven, Georgia (GA).Summary:The Linux Engineer will be responsible to day-to-day systems engineering duties (build/run) with a focus on Linux systems. The Engineer should be well-versed in Red Hat and derivatives (RHEL, CentOS, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Fedora): design, build, maintain, orchestrate, policy, and enterprise management.Defines, designs/architects, builds, implements and maintains Linux systems and servers; responsible for server administration and engineering:Key Tasks:
Builds Linux servers and configures networks; both physical and virtual
Proposes and implements system enhancements (software and hardware updates) that will improve the performance and reliability of the Linux system
Provides ongoing care/maintenance of servers, reviewing logs and managing issues
Manages load configuration of central data communication processor and makes recommendations for purchase or upgrade of data network
Coordinates terminal orders and cable installation, network system planning, installing, monitoring, testing, and servicing
Approves action requests and specifies purchase requirement, "spec'ing" out hardware and getting cost quotes
Negotiates and places orders with common carriers
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
Lends assistance to lower level Linux Systems Administrators
Works on configurations, making suggestions and understanding how systems are integrated across platforms
Partners with Product Development by offering ideas and suggestions to implement Linux systems
Regularly takes on-call assignments
Researches and starts to innovate and design solutions that may not be documented already
In-depth knowledge of VMware ESX would be preferred as well as an operational understanding of Dell PowerEdge servers
The Engineer must also have experience configuring and managing VMware ESX VMs
Additional technologies: Veritas NetBackup, Spacewalk and/or RHN Satellite, Puppet and/or Chef, Docker and/or LXC, container orchestration
In-depth understanding of enterprise authentication and authorization
Ability to work well with application engineers, developers, and QA analysts
Working knowledge of scripting languages: (required) Bash, Python; (bonus) Ruby, Perl, Go; (nice-to-have) C, C , JavaScript/Node, HTML, PowerShell
Working knowledge of basic infrastructure services: SMTP, DNS, FTP, NTP, SSH, LDAP, Kerberos, TLS, SSL, HTTP, and SNMP
Databases: MySQL, Oracle, MS-SQL, PostgreSQL
