Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday core hours (with occasional evenings/weekends as needed)

Position Overview

We’re seeking a highly efficient, experienced, and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee all accounting functions for Akina Enterprises LLC. The Accounting Manager will manage financial reporting, budgeting, audits, cash management, and compliance, ensuring that all accounting processes meet the company’s high standards of accuracy and integrity. This leadership role offers the opportunity to make a visible impact in a close-knit ‘Ohana environment and contribute directly to the continued success of Maui’s most trusted transportation company.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for all accounting functions of the company

Produce monthly financial statements and management reports

Prepare monthly and annual budgets and financial forecasts

Maintain all accounting and financial records with accuracy and confidentiality

Act as the primary interface with external auditors and control audit fees

Negotiate with lending sources and control debt service and interest expense

Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable

Post and process all accounts payable information and ensure timely payment of bills

Prepare and post cash receipts, payroll information, and other journal entries

Invoice major school and contract accounts accurately and on schedule

Reconcile all bank and balance sheet accounts monthly to general ledger detail

Manage all cash functions including receipts, disbursements, and debt schedules

Maintain the chart of accounts and an orderly, up-to-date filing system

Maintain and improve costing systems for operational efficiency

Ensure compliance with all state, local, and federal tax requirements and filings (including GET)

Develop and maintain accounting systems and internal controls for accuracy and efficiency

Prepare regular financial and management reports with actionable insights

Support special projects requiring evening or weekend work (comp time or overtime applicable)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (Associate’s Degree may be considered with extensive experience)

Minimum of 4–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting, budgeting, and cash management

Prior experience as a Senior Accountant, Full-Charge Bookkeeper, or Accounting Manager preferred

Proficiency in accounting software Sage 50 and QuickBooks (Online or Desktop) and Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations)

Strong knowledge of GAAP and Hawaiʻi state/federal financial regulations, including General Excise Tax (GET)

Demonstrated ability to manage audits, lender relationships, and debt service

Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills

High ethical standards and attention to confidentiality

Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with auditors, lenders, and leadership

CPA, CPA Candidate, or Certified Bookkeeper (CB) designation preferred

Salary: $75,000 – $90,000 (commensurate with experience)
