NSF’s NOIRLab operates world-class observatories enabling cutting-edge discoveries in astronomy. The Gemini Observatory is hiring a Mechanical Technician (Level 2, 3, or 4) to maintain and support telescope and observatory mechanical systems on Maunakea.

Key Duties:

Maintain and repair telescope and observatory systems

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance

Support operations, upgrades, and annual shutdowns

Fabricate and machine parts; operate lifting equipment

Follow safety standards and maintain accurate records

Qualifications:

Technical degree or equivalent experience (1–10+ years depending on level)

Mechanical systems knowledge and maintenance skills

Strong teamwork and communication

Valid driver’s license; ability to work at 14,000’ elevation

Crane and confined-space certifications preferred

Pay Range:

Level 2: $27–$32/hr

Level 3: $33–$37/hr

Level 4: $38–$42/hr
