Ortho/Neuro/Peds Unit is a 30-bed medical, surgical, pediatric specialty unit. Ortho and Neuro programs in ONP are Rush Copley Strategic Initiatives. We are a part of the Center for Joint Reconstruction and Replacement Program and Primary Stroke Center. Our 6-bed pediatric population is predominately medical with respiratory illness and is treated by pediatric-trained nurses. RN retention rate at ONP is the highest among other inpatient units with excellent nursing skill mix and customized new employee orientation. Applying for a nursing position in ONP does not require pediatric experience.Position Summary: The registered nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patients’ status, plan of care, and goal achievement. Care is provided in a compassionate, professional, ethical, and knowledgeable fashion based on the Caring Model, exemplifies the mission, vision and values of Rush Copley, and is in accordance with policies and procedures. The registered nurse is expected to uphold the most ethical and safe processes while keeping the care of the patient as a top priority. The position works closely with the entire multidisciplinary team and must have a complete understanding of own limitations and, in turn, seek advice, judgment and support of others, when necessary.POSITION REQUIREMENTS

License: Current state of Illinois Registered Nurse license required.

Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing required, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. For hires or transfers on/after 8/1/2013, must attain a BSN within 5 years of hire/transfer date.

Certifications: CPR Required

NIHSS at time of hire or within three months of employment

Nurses providing care to Pediatric patients must have current PALS certification.

Certification in Orthopedic Nursing, Neuroscience Nursing, Pediatric Nursing or Med/Surg Nursing is desirable.

Special Skills: Demonstration of competency in reading basic cardiac rhythms or will be required to attend a Telemetry Certification Course within the first six months.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in an acute care environment is preferred. New graduates are accepted in conjunction with new graduate programs. Individuals with current experience (in the past 12 months) in sub-acute care may be suitable candidates.
